1st Toyota, 1st Post, 1st question

Today I bought my first toyota! I've always been a chevy man, but I wanted something cheap and fun to get me back and forth to work without putting a ton of miles on my lifted duramax... so I bought a 1989 Toyota for $750 (talked the guy down from 1300). 22R motor, 2 wheel drive, 5 speed, 290k miles. The truck runs great just as I would expect it to. Transmission seems strong. The only issues that this truck has are cosmetic. I have a hook up at the local junkyard so I am wondering what body parts will fit this truck? I need two front fenders, front bumper, and a bed/tailgate. Cause it's pretty thrashed. Aside from being my DD to work and back I want to fix it up and make it look nice-ish. But I would like to know what years/models will fit this truck when I go to the junkyard to look for parts. Thanks!

you need 2WD parts only ... unless you want to "modify"
89-95 typically are the same , other them maybe cosmetic or electrical plug ends

So all body panels have to be from a 2X4 no exceptions ?

Rock Auto seems to have the fenders you need, and there are different part numbers for 2wd and 4wd so panels are probably model specific, but not sure why.

The fender panels are different with larger flares for tires to clear on a 4wd, but almost all parts can be made to fit if you are willing to "customize". I've seen bumpers, fenders, and grilles on the "wrong model".

That said, check carparts.com for cheap new parts, or car-part.com for a salvage yard database of used parts. Then there's always people parting out on Craigslist.

Good luck with your truck. Looks like a good deal.

On the 2wd trucks, some Ford rims will fit. Otherwise 89-95 2wd parts is about the only thing that will interchange. If you use 4wd fenders, then you would at least need to change the blinkers lenses as well.

Mini truckers use 89-95 4runner front ends on them but then you have to change fenders, grill, bumper, and blinkers is some of the things that I know of.

No, all body parts 2wd or 4wd fit the same. The 4wd fenders are wider but still bolt on the same way. The 2wd and 4wd beds are the same.

Its common to swap 4wd fenders onto a 2wd truck to give it a wider look.

Bumpers etc. are all the same.

Grills and marker lights changed through the years though.

Don't know where you are but many good Toyota part-out ads on Atlanta Craigslist including a truck pictured looked just like yours. Good luck

^^'89 and '84 pickups are different generations. '89 and '84 4Runners are the same is where the confusion sets in.

I get new aftermarket fenders on eBay pretty cheap. They don't "fit like a glove", but close enough to look good from the police helicopters.

It's a little hard to find but there's actually a sub forum for tires. This thread should help:

You will run into gear torque and gas mileage differences with big tires so you have to research what seems right to you.
