they do look goofy without half doors. And Jeeps do it why not us?
You are supposed to have mirrors but normally most Jeeps don't.
If your worried about getting mud in your vehicle I suggest you keep your doors on as well. The half door look on the 4runners looks awsome.

I've posted this before. this guy did a bunch of research and found all the DMV laws per state. Just scroll down a little and the links begin. In TX you don't have to have and doors and only one mirror that allows the driver to see 200' behind the vehicle: http://classicbroncos.com/forums/pri...ad.php?t=63347

So what do you do? Carry the full doors around with you or just get wet? Not trying to be a smart a$$, just that rain can be unpredictable.

I can swap over my doors in about 5 mins ... not an issue . rain isnt that unpredictable .. not here anyway . but .. I could carry my stock doors if I needed to , but never have .

So where are the pics here? I want to make mine removable by hand. Sort of like the quick disconnect hinges from 4xInovations but those are 50 a pair!
BTW thats where I got my tube doors from and they are awesome!

I got my hinges from 4xinnovations and they were $65 for the entire set - 4 body sides, 8 door sides and the 4 pins.

I had an extra set from an old set of doors .. so what I did was cut the pins out , got a new set of brass bushings from the local auto supply store , leathed some NEW pins .. and viola quick release hinges .

While not as clean looking as lofreqjeff, I run tube doors year round (it gets a bit chilly during the winter, but life is short). Don't have much of a choice actually since I bought the 4runner from a wreck that caved in the passengers side door and banged up the door sill pretty good. You can see it a bit on the second picture below.
As far as some folks are saying that it is scary without doors, I just have to say whatever. I used to own a jeep wrangler until I got my act together and bought a real 4x4, and driving a jeep with no doors and a 4runner with tube-doors is no biggie.

Just thought I would finally look into some of this, as I decided to remove my doors late last week (have been wanting to since I started dating a gorgeous Jeep girl a couple years ago.)
I checked the WI state vehicles laws, and the only laws that seem to apply in this state are as follows... (WI statute 347.40-1, 347.43-1,4)
Mirrors. (1) No person shall operate any motor
vehicle upon a highway unless such vehicle is equipped with a
mirror so located as to reflect to the operator a view of the roadway
for a distance of 200 feet to the rear of such vehicle.
Safety glass. (1g) In this section, “safety glass”
means glass so treated or combined with other materials as to
reduce, in comparison with ordinary sheet glass or plate glass, the
likelihood of injury to persons by objects from external sources or
by such glass when it is struck, cracked or broken.
347.43-1s: No person may operate upon a highway any motor
vehicle manufactured after January 1, 1936, except a recreational
vehicle other than a 5th?wheel recreational vehicle, unless the
motor vehicle is equipped with safety glass wherever glass is used
on the motor vehicle in partitions, doors, windows or windshields.
347.43-4 If a common carrier or person operating under a permit or
certificate issued by the department is convicted of operating a
vehicle in violation of this section, the department may suspend
or revoke the permit or certificate until such time as the vehicle has
been equipped with safety glass as required by this section.

The mirror law should be easy as long as you have a rearview (this is also the reason many jeeps can get away with no doors (they also still have the rearview mirrow.)
The glass law is arguable. I'll admit, I've only had my doors off half a week, and already I'll driven next to/past/around law enforcement vehicles without any problems. I am sure to have my seatbelt on (because it's smart and alot more visible now), and am if mothing else alot more conscious of the road. Without side mirrors, I find myself becoming more observant already, moving my head more and paying attention to other vehicles on the road.
When I can get some more time, I'll post my solutions to the hinge. I tried it one way, and thought of an ingenious new idea today.

-p.s.-I've been away from the board for a while, but it's good to be back!

The 4xinnovations hinges didn't work for me at all.
I got them barely used by some guy off ttora. They rub the crap out of the door and I don't like forcing it open or closed. Luckily I sold the 4runner that had my homemade quick release hinges to a buddy of mine and should have them back tomorrow. When modifying your hinges, do not screw up the brass bushings in them. All I did was grind the top off of the stock pin and found another pin to fit inside at tractor supply. Then ended up getting some *free* donor doors to make 1/2 doors out of with some hinges already on them. Cut the pins in half and had another set of mounts like 4x's hinges so I can swap both of the doors with 1/2 doors in a few minutes.
