1st gen 4runner- sweet locking center console
i dont believe ive made a thread for this so i figured its about time.
i got an 87 4runner with a horrible center console. a clean brand new one would suck but this thing was NASTY. went to the local 4x4 store just to look around and came across this: (no, not the cpt morgans PS and mcds cups lol)
the shop was selling it for 140 but it can be found on jcwhitney for about 100.
WARNING: this console is crazy long. your seats will still fold forward but it will be dfficult and the seats will be squished. to counter this i removed the rear cup holders and cut the sides so the back of the console was flush with the back of the rear locking compartment then reupholstered the rear and it looks pretty good. if you dont feel like doing that then get the next console i listed below. im sorry i dont have any pics of this, im writing this thread months after i did the install.

and if you dont want to do any modification, you can use this one. it is shorter front to back but about the same width and height.

The process:
so i removed the junk center console and the front bracket that held the console. this revealed the two screw holes about dead center of the pic and the holes near the seat belts. i would recommend some larger self tapping screws to mount the console. you willl have to drill holes in the bottom ofthe console in the right spots to meet the other holes so make precise measurements!!!!
you may need to move the seat belts, idk about the safety issues. i moved mine to the right rear bolt of the drivers seat and the left rear bolt of the passenger seat.
might have left something out, ive been writing this all day during class

You might think that its not a great write up, but just the pics are going to make alot of people jealous. 4 REAL CUPHOLDERS!!! Thats enough to start a riot! I just have some chintzy window sill ones sticking out of my glovebox. Works fine, but sucks if you have a passenger.

Ok, fine. 2 real cupholders you get downgraded from riot to a buzz. I like that you added it to your sig! Funny stuff.

good catch bob, knew i was forgetting something. i never use the rear wiper or window lock so they sadly are just laying under the driver's seat. the up/down switch was moved to where the dome light switch used to be before i moved it because it is basically worthless. now that i found my dremel charger i may put the other switches in the dash but that would have been hard to make it look nice with just a razor back when i did this.
thanks!
thanks!

What brand is this console? I'm trying to find one that will fit in mine without having to move the seats apart. I looked on JCWhitney but couldn't find this one.

you wont have to move the seat, it just squishes them a bit. the only thing i moved was the seat belts and that may not be entirely necessary. click the link in the first post to go directly to this console.
dont forget guys, i eventually modified the rear of the console (removed the 2 rear cupholders) so the rear seats would fold perfectly flat. this isnt necessary but i wanted to do it.
