1st Gen 4Runner: Swapping in later model OEM keyless entry?
My quest to option out my 86 4Runner continues. I wouldn't mind having keyless entry for the front doors. I'm wondering if anyone has ever taken an OEM control box out of a later model truck and wired it in?
I realize that there are aftermarket kits, but they are not appealing to me. I like it all to be genuine Toyota and to look factory.

Never done it myself... you'd have to compare the wiring diagrams for the power door lock controls of the 86 runner and the model yr. you are pulling the wireless controller out of...
the FSMs are no longer available on line so you'll have to go to the dealer and ask them for a print out of both diagrams and compare the two... IDK if the wireless entry controller is integral to the door control relay or not if it is not then you should be able to splice it in easily... if it is you my need to do a bit more work but it should be possible.

I need this too. Getting a new paint job and don't want to scratch it up by putting my keys in the door everyday . I'm considering aftermarket for auto start but I'd like for the parts to all say toyota on them like the PO stated.

If your already putting a remote start in then the only other hardware you would need are the door lock actuators. I'm not sure how you would do that to keep it all toyota, but mine works great with the aftermarket actuators.

I'm adding power windows/locks to my 88 4Runner with my AutoStart remote starter. Front lock actuators/door latch assemblies from a 2nd gen 4Runner bolt right in. I bought new window regulators made by Dorman and the 2nd gen window motors bolt right in.

I have access to an 89 power window lock runner. I did not pull the door stuff when I was last there but could later. I wondered if anyone would buy the oem motors when dormans are 50 bucks. I cant pull them, pay the yard and pay my time for that. I am sure the toyota oem is a superior product but someone has to want it. I want to go back and get the hinges, got the passenger side but will have to pull drivers fender to get the drivers.
