I've had people pull me over on the highway just so they could take pictures of my truck and to ask questions about it! I've been offered 10 grand for it, but I said no. It is the cleanest one around here, though, not to mention one of the only turbo 4runners in the country!!

Well not yet, but actually almost opposite.
We got our 88 4runner in April and since then have been lurking around looking for more....Step 1 is to win alot of money, and then Step 2 is buy alot of 1st gen 4runners.
But seriously, I live in a fairly rural area and I know of 2 1st gen SAS 4runners...one nvere has the back windw up and has pieces of ?aluminum tagged on to cover apparent rotted out areas, the 2nd is a very good looking one. But my son wants to aproach both of them and offer to buy their trucks because A) he thinks I have an endless supply of money and B)because he and I are sure these guys have no clue what they REALLY have there.
I'm sure oce our 4runner hits the road officially, we will get some offers.......my son asked me "if someoe offered like $10,000 to you for it, what would you do" and I said, "Oh my God, I'd sell it" and he got all mad......mostly because he bought it for $1200......oh well, maybe he's smarter than me.

On my stock burgundy 88 4Runner SR5 with 22RE and manual transmission I will get one to two offers a year. Never have asked what they'd be willing to pay, because it wouldn't be enough for me to buy a vehicle I like as well.

I've had a few people offering to buy my 87 4Runner.
Also had people asking what year it is.
At the time, I did have a Bikini Top and Half Doors on.

I'm guilty of leaving notes on people's 1st gen 4Runners. Still hoping the owner of this 88 4Runner deluxe will call me back one day. Haha I love those trucks. My dad had two of them as I was growing up and then a couple of 2nd gens.

all the time; the first gens, beside haveing the back come off, had some neat stuff in it, that the others just don't have. like seperate power for the antennae, back deck light , onboard 12v plug under the steering wheel, cool rollbar , and the biggest; a 22re engine...

i've never had any offers to buy mine. hmm.
i HAVE had people tell me i did a great job customizing my PICKUP when i have the canback sides rolled up.
then they see the seats in the back and they get that stupified look. that's a 4Runner??

Had one person ask if my 89 pickup was for sale.
Get comments on the 4runner at gas stations fairly often, people waving and giving me the thumbs up on the road. I've noticed people sitting at a green light, checking out my truck

happens to me a lot but mine is a pretty one off blue that catches peoples eyes........
Generally have people follow me into a gas station and ask whats on it and if it's for sale. I always just say flat out no. I bought mine for 3k (was a steal at the time in this area). I've always wanted a 1st gen so I sold my 2000 sentra and hunted for several months to find mine (wanted a clean, stockish, no rust one, and it had a new motor to boot which I blew up later :kick myself. Have too much love into it to sell it now. I'll just keep it forever since it's not worth enough money vs. my own value I place on it.
This happens way more in my 93' 2wd though............my neighbors had a garage sale once and 15-20 people asked the neighbor if it was for sale. It stays locked in the garage now lol. The dealer also tried to buy it for 5k about 4 years ago. I would sell everything I have before I let go of that truck (dad bought it new, I got it at 16).

Was that when you were going to buy an Acura/Camaro/who knows what else?

selling the Toy was going to be the down payment plus some more for a new Camero decided to keep the Toy, now I'm doing stuff to it (bumpers and armor, and next regear and lockers) lol
but eventually I will have my SS as well to park right next to the Toy
and I was eyeballing one of those Acura TL's again today... those are still really nice cars what I wouldn't mind having... but I'd much rather pound the gears in a Camero
