Oh, I dunno, just spit-balling here. Have you tried Toyota?

First, you don't have a kick-down cable (the shift points are determined by the ECU). But you're probably thinking of Cable, Throttle 35520-22021 https://parts.lakelandtoyota.com/p/T...552022021.html (if you care, the throttle cable determines how hard the transmission shifts, but not the shift points, so it will not "kick down" the transmission).

thanks, I need the cable that has the orange plastic piece on the end. AS you can see there is another cable below it, on the 22RE, 4CYL, DLX model, the top one operates the tranny (4 speed auto with an overdrive 1987) and the cable below is actually the throttle(accelerator cable) #78180-89141, which was installed yesterday.
Supposedly I need a #35520-35061 cable which Toyo dealer said was discontinued.
Anybody help?
And thanks much

clearly you didn’t follow the link provided above, which redirects to a new, oem cable.

Appreciate all the help. Did try OverstockToyota, the link above and the tech said the kickdown cable was discontinued, as did most
all other dealers stated: part 35520-35061. The reference to the cable on link was for accelerator cable, which I've already installed.
again thanks, hate to do a junk yard which is probably spotty anyway.

35520 is in fact the cable you're looking for to go to the transmission.
78180 is the cable to the pedal..

If you're not getting a new plastic wrapped one out of Thailand, and there isn't anything wrong with yours as you stated just run what you have and forego scrounging the salvage yards..

Thank you. yes, 35520 is the cable to tranny. Its the 35061 number sequence that goes with the nomenclature that makes it fit an 87 like mine.
No dealers I checked with, Ebay, etc. has it; was told to try and rebuild it when/if it breaks. For now will certainly continue to drive like it isn't there; when,if, it eventually breaks then, well. you know. Thanks for all the advice. With parts discontinued by dealer and no replacement available I don't see the point in keeping such a vehicle. Heck I can get parts easier for my 68 cougar than this yota, but many were duplicates of the 'stangs. Oh well. Trying a junkyard to have another as a backup.

Order the NOS "new old stock" linked above..

The first five digits are the part, this is shared across various vehicles.

The second five are the vehicle codes. The number your looking for is discontinued and superceded by the one linked.

you must have a weird computer. when i click the link, it directs to a site that sells the cable for just under $125, it is available. oem toyota, and lists ‘87 4runner w/auto as a fit.

Thanks 94, AT 72 I'm dumber than dirt with this. Maybe you could post the link for a superceded kickdown cable that originally was listed as 35520-35061. That and the 35060 are discontinued at every parts outfit I could find. Emailed back and forth with several and they had nothing as an alternative. What am I missing? Find me the part and I'll send you $50. cash in the mail once I purchase it. It does however, have to fit this vehicle and nothing, repeat nothing, comes close to that according to the purveyors of these after market ToyotaOverstock, and several Yota dealers, as well as a couple other vendors. I can't locate any. They as well as the fit index said those parts don't fit my vehicle. Its an oddball I guess, 1st year EFI. Anyway, still looking. And thanks for taking the time. And don't ever get old

Yep I am looking at that, URL, its an accelerator cable not a kickdown, yes it fits the DLX automatic model vehicle. But isnt this an accelerator cable I just replaced?
I emailed a tech there and they said they didn't have a kickdown cable available, this isn't it. and the part I need is discontinued, even to an aftermarket rep. Thanks much for the assistance. I'm going to telephone this outfit monday and see if I'm communicating properly. apparently Im not.

is the cable throttle, the upper cable in my pix with the orange tip? I thought throttle was same as accelerator. Dealers and Overstock led me to believe that my definition of kickdown cable, along with the pix, were out of stock, discontinued.

The aisin-borg-warner a340 transmission doesn't have a "kick down cable" it has a cable between the throttle and transmission which actuates a pressure valve. The Toyota parts catalog calls this "cable, throttle"..

That ~22021 part should fit. Click the link scope posted, mash order and see if they can ship it. It will either come as NOS or something from Thailand.

The 22re didn't change, the transmission didn't change. The part number you've got is supersceeded by several parts batches and the database just lost track.. That part linked should fit any 22re and a340 combination, and if it different just send it back...

...
Your still tap dancing around why you think this needs replaced and I expect you're throwing cash at a problem that a different cable isn't going to change..

This this cable changes the pressure on the automatic trans pressure plates. IE I mash the pedal to over 75% and when the trans shifts up there is more clutch plate pressure and it slipped less and smacks my passengers head off the head rest instead of slipping a little..

Well, that's probably a clearer description than mine on the function of the transmission "Cable, Throttle."
