I removed and rebuilt my steering box today on my 1988 Toyota Pickup 4WD using the link here and it seemed to go well until I got everything back in the truck. I turned the steering wheel before starting the truck while still on jackstands and the wheels did not turn. Before this, while the box was still on the bench, I could turn the input shaft with my hand and it would turn the output shaft, so I figured everything was in order. Filled reservor with ATF and started the truck. Heard some gurgling sounds and the pump started to make noise so I shut it off. Only ran it for 30 seconds or so. The steering wheel spins to infinity (there is no lock to lock) and does so very freely (with little to no resistance) and the wheels still do not turn at all. Any ideas?

steering column shaft is not fully inserted in the box?

the connection between the steering column and the box is via a clamp at the end of the steering column which goes over the input shaft splines on the box and is secured with a 12mm bolt. It is tight. The problem has to be internal of the box, and after reading more about recirculating ball steering, I think that it may have something to do with the preload.
