89-95 IFS Truck Suspension Lift Options
Ran into a situation that could really use some advice from fellow members here. For a while now I've been contemplating about what type of lift I'm going to go with for my truck. I'm the kind of guy that is a firm believer in the saying that "you get what you pay for" and I always of inferior products for quality. So I've been looking at the Skyjacker, Superlift, Rough Country and other lifts on the market and figured that just to be safe I'm going to be looking at around 1K for a new 4" Kit. The real crummy part is I'm kinda on the ropes as to wether I'm going to have the time and place to do this myself. Here's the thing, with myself having worked for Toyota/Lexus for the last 7 years and being an ASE Master it's pretty hard to swallow paying someone else to do a job which I could perform myself. However this vehicle is my daily driver so minimal downtime is needed. So just when I think I've got everything figured out I see the 2" Toytec lifts for our IFS Trucks. Talk about a difference in price and in installation. The install has got to be a breeze. My ultimate goal was to mount some Cragar Soft 8's under the wheel wells with nothing larger than a 33". What get's me is all the other suspension companies advise no more than a 33x12.50 . I know they are just playing it safe but if I can mount a 33" under there with a Toytec setup then that's definately worth looking into as well. I don't know if the Toytec will support a 12.5 but if not it's really no big deal. So here's my question, spend a big chunk and get 4" or spend a much lower amount and get 2"? Thoughts, comments? Anybody have any first hand experience with Toytec? Am I going to kick myself later for not going big? Ahh

I stuck a 3" body lift under my truck. It allowed me to run 33's on my truck with completly sagged out suspension.
Running 12.5" wide tires, you will need to beat the pinch weld and cut the inner fender. No big deal. Easy.
Cheap and effective.

I'm kinda in the same spot as you. I went ahead and purchased the ball joint spacers for my truck and instead of getting the add a leafs i ordered a custom set of alcan springs for the rear. Pricey you better believe it but i needed new springs and i always try to upgrade my truck when replacing stuff. Since i haul my quad and wanted the best spring for my dollar i asked around and found that the custom set up from alcan would be ideal for my needs. They ran me around 550.00 and are supposed to go in next month. new shocks and the bj spacers installed i'll be mounting a set of 33x12.50's on the truck there after. After searching and reading other peoples installs i found that they will clear but rubb the pinch weld. I figure no problem i'll go ahead and trim it and add a 1 inch body lift to relieve the rubbing issue. Things to consider when looking at the toytech ball joint add a leaf lift is you can only get so much lift out of the front and it's noted i believe in 4crawler's page that most every one's vehicle will be different. If you have the ADD system to engage your 4wd cvs will be a concern with this type of lift since it drops the spindle by adding a spacer at the upper ball joint. If you have the locking type of hubs it can still be a concern but not as much as the ADD system. Many posts will suggest to only add the ball joint spacers to achieve more travel and not lift. I kinda want to find a happy medium of relaxed torsion bars and only enough lift to fit tires with the body lift. Remember only lift as much as needed! So is the toytech lift a good idea i think so but as you can see i did a lot of research before i went a similar route. I used 4crawlers ball joint spacers and using a custom spring set up out back. If you have good leafs then go for the add a leaf. I also have read bad reviews on the procomp shocks and took it with a grain of salt. I opted to go with bilstiens in the long run for performance gains. As far as i've read the procomp stage II lift is one of the better ones for our trucks. If i was going that route of getting a bracket lift that is the one i'd go for. Next month when every thing is in i'll give review and write up on the pro's and cons of my set up. First, 4" lift will fit 35's on our trucks.
Second, Toytec=4 Runner=SDORI for ball joint spacers - they're all made by SDORI
Lastly, and most important - what do you want to end up with, how do you use your truck? If you want 33's or ground clearance, a 33x10.50 will fit with a lot less trouble. If you want the wider tire for looks, then there's a fitment price to pay. That said, there are TONS of people running 33x12.50 with BJ spacers and tbar crank.
Personally, if I was dead set on running 33x12.50, I would do BJ spacers + 1 or 2" body lift.

if you want 4inches but dotn want to spend a grand, get bj spacers(4crawler, good guy to deal with) and a 2inch Add-a-leaf, there bout 50 bucks, and a 2inch body lift. heres a pic of my truck with nothin but bj spacers,AAL, 33x12.50 with 15x8s with 3.75 backspacing, only rubbed when i wheeled

I just bought a Toyota and I don't have any tools or any kind of area to work on it with and I'm wanting to drop in a V8 and clear 38's but I don't have any money and do I need to lift this if so what kind of lift and what do you recommend also I'm not sure if all terrains will work in mud is there another kind I have some rims that should work but they came off a yugo so is the bolt pattern the same...

you gain ground clearance except at the lower control arms the front cross member, and the rear axel (assuming like most kits you get blocks) shoot even with aal youre only going to gain ground clearance from larger tires
