1993 22RE ac question
I've had a 1993 22re 4x4 since new and the AC never has blown real cold while driving around town, on the highway it is adequate this was with R12. The conversion to 134 has been done and it's still barely adequate in town....Just curious of what others experience is with AC. I had always assumed the 4cylinder just didn't move enough air across the condenser to cool effectively in town.

My R134a conversion went just fine (3VZE). I don't live where it gets insanely hot, so my experience may not help you.
If your problem is always town/highway and it was the same R12/R134a, you might want to examine the fan clutch. The manual http://web.archive.org/web/201501160...50waterpum.pdf isn't much help. As it gets warmer you should be able to hear the fan start up.

My 88 was ice cold with R12 and when converted to 134. It's now powered with a 3.4 but, still has the original system other than the compressor. Still cold and I'm in Arizona. Make sure you have no heat mixing with your cold air. Maybe pinch off a heater hose and see if it cools better. Make sure it's charged correctly and that your duct work is not leaking behind the dash. Good luck with your troubleshooting.

Check your evaporator (both sides). Mine was completely clogged with dirt/dust (was an Arizona truck). PO did the conversion to 134 and then switched back to R12, said it wasn't cutting it in AZ. But he should've also cleaned the evaporator and maybe 134 would've been adequate. Blows super cold here in NJ with R12 and a clean evaporator. .
