1991 Toyota Pickup - 12 V Ignition "Switched" Power to Radio Dead
Hello all,
I have come in to ownership of a 1991 Toyota Pickup 4WD DLX. It is a lovely vehicle which I have been fixing up to keep for a long time.
One of the upgrades/fixes is installing a new stereo deck in to the vehicle. I notice that the previous owner had tapped the ignition "switched" 12 V wire off of the cigarette plug in order to power their stereo. I would like to wire in the stereo to the proper switched wire (which is gray w/ red stripe on this vehicle) in order to regain the functionality of the cigarette plug so I can charge my phone.. Currently, this wire is not getting switched power.
All fuses in the interior fuse box in the kick panel are showing continuity. "RADIO" and "CIG" both show continuity (the ones I'd assume are most important) and upon visual inspection look intact as well. Cigarette is receiving switched power, radio is not.
I have taken a look at the wiring diagrams I can find which don't provide a lot of detail. Can anyone point me to any resourced for troubleshooting this line and/or a schematic? I am competent in use of a DMM and other electrical techniques. Like I said, the new stereo when hooked up to the cigarette lighter switched power the stereo works as intended but I would like to revert for this to work properly and have full functionality of both the radio and the cigarette plug.
Thank you for your time.

The cigarette lighter (and clock) should receive switched power from a Gr-R (Gray-Red) wire. The radio requires both switched and unswitched power, on Gr (Gray) and L-Y (Blue-Yellow) respectively. Both the CIG and RADIO fuses are powered directly from the ignition switch on an L-R wire.
I'm having a little trouble following your description. Is the radio currently wired to Gr-R, or Gr, or something else? Is whatever wire used switched? Does your RADIO fuse not get power at all? Is there some reason you can't wire both the cigarette lighter and radio on the same (switched) wire (well, the radio also requires unswitched power, usually from the DOME fuse.)

Hello scope03,
Upon further inspection the 15 A "DOME" fuse in the engine fuse box has broken. I'll source a replacement and if there are any further issues then I will respond. I had mis-stated the issue in my original post.
Apparently, this fuse also feeds down to the radio.
Thank you!
