1988 Pickup 2WD Carb intermittent bucking/losing power

Hello everyone. Sometimes when I'm going down the highway or driving around town for more than 30-40 minutes, my pickup will lose power. Not just lose power, though. It will almost feel like someone is stepping on the brakes or the vehicle is bucking. If I go to a lower gear, it doesn't really get better, and I can't get above ~50mph. If I shut off the vehicle for 20 minutes, it will always recover, and I've never had the issue on short drives. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?
