Main transmission is a standard H-pattern. 1st is left and up. 2nd is left and down. 3rd is middle and up. 4th is middle and down. 5th is right and up, reverse is right and down, and is spring loaded.
The transfer case shifter is slightly right and below the main shifter.
The transfer case is left and up for 2WD, left and down is 4Hi. 4Neutral is down and middle, and will place both transmission and transfer case in neutral.
4Low is right and up. To shift in and out of 4 Low, always have the truck stopped, or at least below 5 MPH.
It's best to have the main transmission in Neutral before shifting in and out 4WD, either 4HI or 4LOW.
To shift out of 4HI to 2WD, if it seems jammed, stop the vehicle, and back up 3 meters (10 feet) or so. This will "unload" the transfer case, allowing shifting.
You can lock/unlock the hubs before you even start the truck. You can lock/unlock the hubs with the engine running or stopped, it doesn't matter. For obvious reasons, they can't be actuated with the truck moving.
ALWAYS have the vehicle on a surface that will allow the front tires to slide a bit, like sand, gravel, snow, or ice, before making a turn of any kind in 4WD, either HI or LOW.
Get the stickers SomedayJ linked, and memorize them BEFORE you drive the truck. It will save you a lot of heartache, tow bills, and grinning transmission mechanics, when they realize what you've done, and how much they'll make...
Hope this all helps a little...
