Unhappy 1986 4Runner Hesitation/No Power

Just bought an OK condition 4runner and the guy who had it just didnt have the time to mess with it anymore so he let it go pretty cheap. Had to jump on it so i did and now im trying to sort out the bugs.
-Starts fine
-idles fine
-revs happily in park or neutral
-In Reverse you can tell its lacking some power but moves
-In Drive it just falls on its face. As soon as you start taking off you can tell there is little to no power. Motor revs up and the truck goes nowhere. Feels like youre pulling a 20,000lb trailer. Hold the pedal to the floor long enough and it will pick up speed but with some misses along the way.
-Drop it in L1 and it does better. Seems to pull with more power but not a whole lot. Bout the same as reverse.
-it has a new TPS (adjusted) and a new AFM. All cylinders are firing. pulled plugs they looked fine. Wires fine. Dist cap looks almost new.
-No air bubbles in radiator while running with cap off. Oil not milky. So head gasket not a big suspect.
-Found a harness 2 pin connector that comes from the transmission floating around unhooked but i didnt see anywhere it would plug into.
-Pulled check engine codes and a i got a 2. 7,8, and 11. This was PRE new AFM and TPS. after installing new parts seemed to idle a whole lot better but still same issue.
-Set the timing to 5BTDC with diag connector shorted. No change.
-If i put the truck into L1 and hold it to the floor about halfway up the rev range (no tach) it suddenly has all the power. Like it will go from no power to all the power and jolts the truck forward. wont do it flooring it in drive only when u manually put into L1.

I know someone on here has experienced this before or has worked on these 22re's long enough to point me in the right direction. Thanks everyone in advance.

Check ignition timing and run a compression test.

Lets start with some basics. It's a 22re, it's got about 100hp, yeah it will run till the sun supernovas, it is not a power house..

What's the drive train? Transmission? Gear ratio in the diff? What tires are you running?

Now some more in-depth bits..

Have you checked the compression? Have you checked the cam timing? Timing chain stretched?

2, 7, 8.. Indicate the vcc/VC or battery voltage are falling on its face. Check your grounds, the it's a thread for these clean them all and make sure they are there.

Yeah i figured the little motor wasnt going to be a power house but i can push the truck faster up to speed rn than it can.

Automatic transmission, stock gearing (not sure exactly what it is)

I will run a compression test in the morning but the grounds were pretty tight and clean, its one of the things that caught my eye when i checked the truck out at first. someone else must have went through them. ill still double check them.

Any idea what the loose connector coming from the transmission went to?

Snap some photos of the connector, one up close so we can see the shape and layout of the connector and a broad wide shot of where it sits on the vehicle.

Don't know off hand, seems like a good place for the transmission oil.temp sensor.. That will keep it from shifting into OD.
