1/4 throttle has more "umph" than 1/2 or full throttle???

actually the easyest way to explain my 22re is like this. say your coming around a corner in the low end of 2nd gear and your about to come out of it and speed up, as i put the throttle on, 1/4 throttle is all i need, if i gun it it will not go anyfaster or make any sound. the only time more throttle is needed is when i wanna rev super high or on a bigg hill.

I would say "welcome to the world of 2 valves per cylinder". My 22re's are about the same. 1/4 throttle is the best for getting any kind of torque out of them. The engine can only suck what it can suck. Adding fuel or air will not help when the vaccum is only so much. The ECU controls the fuel based on the o2 and AFM so it has control over how much fuel you can add. Adding more then the engine can burn will only cause a rich condition the ECu will not allow this because of the O2 feedback. You can only burn as much fuel as the amount of air that is suck in. And the 22re sucks at sucking
The only way to get around this is to boost it 22ret style. That is why Toyota made the 22ret. I wish they had of built a different head with more valves instead...........

any knocking??
^this sounds like the best explanation.
Did you make any changes to your intake plenum?? what changes did you make to your valvetrain?

Have you checked for any possible vaccum leaks? I'd use some carb cleaner and spray all around and see if you have any idle change. A vaccum leak could be from a hose, gasket, grommet, fitting, loose parts or even a crack.

i dont know what to do with my 22re. it runs good, gets crap millage for a 22re, idles super high when cold, 1/4 throttle is about all i use, cant see any visible vacume leaks, my maf looks nice and clean and the flappy thing inside works? i basically have given up and just drive it lol

well I can't find any leaks, visually or by hearing anyway; I didn't have any starter fluid to spray around to look for a leak
I bumped the timing up 2 degree, and ever so slightly adjusted the AFM, so we'll see what happens
I didn't have time to get to testing the TPS today though
