Wheels Options?

So im sure its been covered, but i couldnt find it specifically. WITHOUT MACHINING, what different makes will fit first gen toyotas 4x4s? only wheels made for first gens? or like 6 lug chevy wheels or nissan wheels? I've seen it go back and forth. Yeah you should be good, no it wont work without making the hole bigger, wont work without spacers, etc. So for FIRST GENS WITH SOLID FRONT AXLES, what wheels work?

I would like to know, because im looking for an extra set of wheels to put on my daily driver 1985 4runner. im gonna try and slap a set of beadlocks on whatever i get, so i prefer they be steel.

not sure on other makes but toyota solid axle wheels have a differant back spacing than the IFS wheels , so if you dont want to run wheel spacers stick to a toy solid axle wheels, if you have cross over steering than that doesn't apply. I think solid axle wheel backspacing is 3 3/8 and IFS is like 4.75

Almost all toyota wheels will fit trucks, the IFS and SFA dont interchange sometimes due to backspacing tho so be careful.

Some chevy wheels will fit, they need to have a large hole for the hub tho. Usually this means older chevy wheels. Nissan wheels will not fit.

I've got 70's-80's factory Chevy rally wheels on mine, painted black. I had to plasma cut the center hole so they would fit over the front hubs. I personally think they look good and the back spacing is to my liking.

i dont have access to a plasma cutter, i was really hoping those would work though.. how well do they balance.. assuming you drive it on the roads.

They seem to balance out fine. I don't drive it on the road much at the moment tho. It's more of a project for now while I build it up the way I want.

as long as it's lug-centric it should balance... putting hub-centric wheels on our lug-centric early Toyotas is where you might run into trouble... but those may work with 106mm to 108mm adapters.

here are the specs for sfa wheels, from the 4crawler site, I think that one of the big limiting factors with stock steering is going to be backspacing, because it'll hit the steering or even the front springs:

Stock wheels:
15x6 steel 3-3/8" back side spacing (on '85 and earlier wheels),
4-3/4" back side spacing on '86 and later wheels, 15x6 steel or 15x7 alloy
Center bore diameter: 4-3/8" (111mm) ID
To fit over front hubs which are approx. 4-1/4" (108mm) OD
And of course this implies a lug-centric wheel since the center bore is larger than the hub 6 on 5.5" bolt pattern M12x1.50 thread pitch studs
