What is this part leaking fuel on my 22re?
1985 4Runner 22re. About every year or so, I smell fuel and see a puddle of it underneath my 4Runner. It is always coming from a round part that attaches underneath my EFI unit. It is covered by a plastic round cover and there is a small screw that always comes loose from the bottom of the metal, round part that I simply just tighten up and the problem goes away. But I would like to know what is causing this to happen. The round metal part does something with fuel and does have a Toyota part number that I cannot see very clearly - even with a mirror. The pictures show the general vicinity of the round metal part as well as the plastic part. Anybody have a clue what this part is and what is causing it to leak every so often?

It's a fuel pulsation damper. Supposedly keeps the fuel pressure smooth instead of pulsing with the injectors firing and the pump doing its thing. Somewhere along the way Toyota deleted it and just used a regular banjo bolt in its place.
Mine started leaking and I replaced it with a cheapo unit from the parts store or RockAuto. Costed around $70 if I remember correctly. Lasted 3 or 4 years and started leaking again. The second time, I replaced it with an OEM Toyota part. That part was $110 and it's been about 2 years so far. I'd recommend the Toyota part. The cheapo part obviously didn't last long, and on top of that, it didn't have the proper ridges to hold the copper crush washers centered. You had to hold them centered by hand while tightening and often the washers would be slightly pushed out and not seal.
