Truck won't turn or crank

So I just bought a 85 pickup with a 20r installed. Guy said he had it running before he started tearing it down. Thing is it needed the coil wired, and new battery. So myself thinking no big deal. Big mistake. This thing has a 22r ecu with a 20r motor. There's also a 22re wiring harness that's under the hood. My issue is I tried wiring the coil and nothing its got two wires positive and negative and a black wire that I assume is a ground. I've never done a ignition coil and have no clue where to start. I've got a battery in the rig and its getting power, but when I turn the key all I get is a clicking noise coming from the ecu. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I just need a vehicle to get around and this truck is the only thing i got so I gotta make it work. Thanks

Get you battery tested?
Clean your battery contacts so bare shiny metal contacts bare shiny metal?
That click NEAR the ECU is the circuit opening relay - probably no needed on the 20R and has nothing to do with cranking.

22 ECU, 20r motor, 22RE wiring... Oh my!
Sorry, but if you need a vehicle to get around, a project truck like what you've got is not what you need. It would be difficult to get one with mixed parts going reliably.

Just your description of the engine assembly sounds to me like you have a soup sandwich on your hands. Each year harness from 84-88 is different. I have swapped enough of them around that I can tell which year is which just by looking at the harness alone. 84 was 22r only but even it has changes. By the way it sounds the PO mix matched everything, if it was me I would be looking into a complete wiring harness swap. Get everything from the same truck as Toyota just loves swapping things around.

Probably a lot more then you want to do but that is how I would fix it and going with a 22 series motor. If it were me, I would go with a 22r wiring and do a Weber.
