Treetop hit my 4runner
On Tuesday I was out splitting some wood when I heard a pop. Looked up and watched a treetop snap in the wind and land on my 4runner. While the damage isn't extremely bad its pretty much a guaranteed total if I turn it in. Shattered the windshield, dinged A pillar on the drivers side and messed up the roof a bit. Also less importantly removed the drivers side mirror. Somehow it didn't get the fenders or hood.
I have comprehensive coverage so I know it will be covered but I am hesitant to turn it in and get it totaled. I looked online for comparable priced rigs and depending on the site they are anywhere from $3500-14,000. Condition seems less important than it should. The only thing really wrong with my rig was some slight rust on the drivers rear fender. Interior is good to great with seats and dash in amazing conditions.
Pictures of the damage. What are your thoughts?

Not sure on insurance. I believe they are state to state on if they can still report it as totaled. Just like shops have the choice to report smaller damage repairs even if paid private party to try and keep the cars record clean. Honestly dont know.

Sorry to see that. Did this happen on your property? Is there any chance homeowners insurance would cover it?
This is precisely the reason I dropped comprehensive coverage on my 4Runner, I think it was costing me maybe an extra $150 a year so not really much money, but I just know that if I had some damage to the truck, I'd be better off paying for it myself than trying an insurance claim. Like you, I'd be afraid to call them and ask, they would total the truck.
I'd probably get some quotes to fix it here and then decide what to do. Here in Florida, insurance has to cover glass breakage 100%, if your state is similar, then maybe you can at least get the windshield paid for by insurance.
