TPS Sensor Question

TPS Sensor Question
I have an 85 SR5 Xtracab 22re and can't seem to find the answer to my question in any of the tech areas.
I am curious if I can use a TPS sensor from a different year truck or must stay with the one from my year?
I have looked at the TPS cross reference chart and it lists my 85 as a seperate part #.
What do people who pull used engines out of like a 92 pickup as a replacement engine for their 85 trucks do?
Must they replace the throttle body on the 92 engine with one from their original engine or can they leave the 92 sensor on it?
I guess my main question is if the TPS sensor is matched to the throttle body or to the vehicles ECU? Any information or thoughts on this would b appreciated?
Thanks,
Sean

The metal tabs on the TB need to match the TPS.
I believe they are 90* difference from the 92.
You will need the rotating TPS drive plate with tabs off the 92 and use it in your 85.
4crawler might have a write up on this.
Good luck, hope I made sense.

Sensors are matched to the ECU/ECM
So if your putting a 1995 22REC engine in your 85 4x4 you just swap the engine with all the electronics to a 95
Or you can install the 85 electronics on the newer engine always bugs to work out no matter what
