Tie Road End Help

I recently ordered new FJ80 TREs from Trail Gear for my 1985 Toyota pickup w/ high steer. I removed the old TREs and installed the FJ80 ones into the steering links and the threads matched up just fine. When I attempted to install the links onto the steering arms I realized that the the taper and castle nut threads on the FJ80 TREs were not the same as the ones previously installed. The FJ80 TREs drop too far into the steering arm holes and I run out of threads when tightening the castle nut, (see pics below). Unfortunately I did not build this truck originally so I don't know what high steer kit was used or what the originally installed TREs are from. Does anyone have any idea what my original TREs could be from based on the pics? Would it be a bad idea to add washers so that I could tighten the castle nuts? Also, could the steering arm holes have been modified by a previous owner, they taper from 16mm at the top to approximately 14.5mm at the bottom?
