Terrible gas mileage, smells like gas.
I have scoured this forum and many others trying to find a solution. I’ve tried everything I’ve come across with no luck so far.
so if anyone can help it would be awesome
Backstory: 94 pickup. 4x4. 3.0.
on a 40 mile round trip, my mileage has gotten to where I use just shy of a half tank.
the trip is 80% highway.
the smell of gas coming from the engine bay and mileage issue started about two days ago.
ive checked for vacuum leaks, my plugs wires and distributor, fuel filter, fuel pressure damper, air flow sensor, and so many more with ABSOLUTELY no change.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

That much fuel in 40 miles. My bet is you have a leak. Is it your DD or can you roll a different rig for a bit. If so start with the easy part. Too off the tank and park it for a week. See if the tank has a slow drip. You can also run it to temp then check the entire fuel system for leaks.
Have you checked all your visible fuel lines for leaks yet? Fuel filter fittings? Where is the smell strongest?, engine compartment, under the rig, back of the rig, etc? I don't know much about that engine but thats a basic start in the right direction.
Good luck.

UPDATE
last night I pulled the intake lines and all that off.
made sure it was all good. Brand new air filter.
took IAC off to check I thoroughly. It was DIRTY. Took the time to clean it up really well and let dry.
put everything back together. Drove to work this morning and the issue seems to be resolved, though now I have to reset my idle due to everything allowing more air to flow and whatnot.
still to soon to say if fuel economy has improved, but no longer smell fuel in the engine bay.
