Temperature gauge woes

Temperature gauge woes
Hi!
Ok, so my truck has been back together for a while since the trip onto its passenger side
So far the cab swap has been successful. Yet, I have one issue. The temp. gauge does not seem to work. Even after everything was put back together, it worked on and off at times. Now it barely works. You can see the needle lift up, maybe 1/8 of an inch, and then it settles back down. Like it gave up trying to give me a reading.
Has anyone had this problem? What should I look for? The sending unit IS plugged in, as is the gauge itself. When I had the cluster apart, I took very good care of it and it has not sustained damage that I can tell of.
I'd really appreciate some input. I hate being out on the trails not knowing how hot the old gal is getting.

Make sure all grounds are back in place (including the grounds to the dash instraments and their secondary grounds), double check the connection at the sending unit and also at the back of the gauge cluster.
We were having temp sending problems but fixed it by cleaning and re-seating the screw on the back of the cluster. Works perfectly now.
Hope it helps

I'd replace the sender, they're cheap enough. Usually the gauge either works or not. If you've checked all your wiring connections. That's were I'd start. I recently had an issue with my oil pressure sender on my boat doing the same thing, Volvo wanted $48 bucks, I went down to my local Autozone got one for $15 bucks and it's working great now.

The sending unit for my temp gauge went bad, when the engine was at normal operating temp the gauge would read just above cold. I replaced the sending unit and havn`t had any problems since.

I think its the sending unit then. When i did the cab swap, I did not unscrew any grounds (minus BATT cable). It was all plug this plug that. nd teh guage will currently read just above cold. Perhaps that is the solution. But I'll probably backtrack through some of the wiring. Just in case.
Thankyou!
Thankyou!
