Tach?

Tach?
I have an sr5 gauge cluster in my 85 toyota 4x4 extra cab 22r, the tach does not work. It doesn't even move the slightest bit. I am not sure where it would typically take the readings from or if the previous owner put the sr5 gauge cluster in and never hooked up the tach.
Where or what could I take a look at to help narrow this down?

I know when you put an aftermarket tach on it goes to the Negative post on the Ignitor.
Since its stock it might just be in the wiring harness.
I would see if theres any loose cords by the drivers side front fender though.
You MIGHT have to tear apart the dash to investigate.
Make sure you have the day off for that one....

that is what i'm going to have to do I think. Is there a tut on here for takin the dash apart or just dig in. lol...
Is this what you are talking about? The green plug there that doesn't have anything attached to it?
Also if you know off the top of your head, is what I have in the pic the oil pressure sensor/sending unit? In the FSM, i believe, it showed it to the left of the oil filter. This shows it below the oil filter, the camera is sideways b/c it was the best way to get the pic.
Here it is out of the fsm:

yeah... that's what I'm going to do. I have the FSM, but it doesn't seem to show anything to do w/the gauge cluster. Doesn't really make sense why it wouldn't unless i'm missing something.
Can someone take a look at the pic above and see if you can confirm the oil press. sensor/sending unit? Thanks

Well soccer, I cant confirm it...But are there any other sensors or anthing where the FSM say it is, or is that all thats near the oil filter...
Tell you the truth it looks like it..But I've never really take THAT close of a look at my engine.

The sensor shown to the left of the oil filter (facing the right side of the block) is the knock sensor for 22RE motors (EFI only). Thus, your 22R should NOT have a sensor to the left of the filter.
The pressure switch is located beneath the filter and uses only ONE wire with a spade connection (spade means flat). Your truck has the "idiot light" switch currently and will require a "gauge type" switch that is significantly larger; about the size of a radiator cap with enough room to wrap your fingers around it.
Failure to convert to the "gauge type" switch prior to cluster installation WILL result in a destroyed oil gauge. BY destroyed, I mean dead. Un-useable.
The tach plugs into the un named green plug that hangs off of the ignition coil. If your tach does not automatically work, you will need to run a jumper wire. The plugs hooking into the cluster are really just plastic housings holding onto tiny universal spade connectors. Follow the electronic circuit board lines from the "tach terminals" to their corresponding areas of the plug. Unfortunately I don't know much about this portion, but you should be able to crimp a tiny universal spade connector and slide it into the back of the plug. The other end passes through the firewall, where you then crimp on a larger, more common sized, "male" spade connector. This should slide right in to that un manned green plug.
The best of luck to ya.
