Swapping forward shift for top shift

Swapping forward shift for top shift
Ok so other than the holes in the floor for the shifter not quite lining up correctly and the shifter being moved back a bit, is there anything more to swapping a forward shift tcase for a topshift? I found an awesome deal on a 4:1 topshift tcase with twin sticks. I would rather run that for wheeling than the factory 2:1 case. My truck is a forward shift though and just want to make sure Im not overlooking anything other than bolting it up to my stock tranny and cutting a new hole in the floor. I already searched and I couldnt find a definitive answer.

As long as you have a complete top shift(shifter included), it should bolt right in. Don't forget you will have to seal the forward shift portion on the transmission top. I would guess you could just remove the shift rails and leave the shifter if you had to. Might look pretty ghetto, but hey.....

Well picked up the Tcase yesterday, just too good of a deal to pass up. Already came up with a game plan, I was going to build a custom center console with a lockbox to hide my valuables when driving with half doors. So the shifter ordeal wasnt a huge thing. Next weekend I plan on removing my factory Tcase and blocking the shifter hole on the transmission. Then bolt up the new tcase, cut a hole in the floor for the shifters and be done for a bit.

of course it's expensive :-( but getting that second case is a step in the right direction.
the way it works is that the rear transfer case has to be top shift, but the front transfer case can be forward shift.
so when you say 4:1, you mean 4.70 gears? that's a pretty sweet deal! count the teeth, it'll probably have to be 21 tooth to fit into your trans.
4.70 gears with 23 teeth are strongly preferred for the rear case in a dual case setup.

hopefully you kept the forward shift tcase? because you can use it for a dual transfer case setup.

I am thinking you mean splines, not teeth?

You can swap your forward shift linkage into the new t-case and keep your shifters where they are if you want. The parts are all interchangeable.
Its not that hard to do. Easier than relocating your shifters and cutting your floor.
