smoke on start up
so when i start my truck up every time it smokes out the tailpipe either gray (most of the time) or black (rarely) smoke comes out and thats the only time it smokes. i've been told that it could be either the valves or the rings?? anybody have or had this problem?

blue = oil
white = water
black = excessive fueling (RICH)
blue is a bit of a misnomer, as it is blue-gray, but you can clearly see some blue in it.
white smoke on startup = steam or cold engine
huge clouds of continuous white smoke = coolant/head gasket

Well, it depends. If you're leaving it mostly stock, I would just keep driving it.
If you're running 5w30 you could try a 10w30 instead, that may reduce your smoking enough to make you happy.
If you're going to cam the engine, that would be a good time to do your valve stem seals.

i don't know what kind of oil is in it right now but when it came out on the dipstick it was dripping like it was water lol so i'm going to change it and probably run 10w 40 thats what i ran in my last yota and i loved it. i've only had this one for almost 2 weeks and the only thing that is bothering me is the smoke and its difficult to get in gear sometimes and both of the reservoirs are full.

Whenever I get a new (to me) vehicle, the first thing I do is change ALL the fluids. I've had more than one vehicle come with only a splash of oil in the front diff. Thank goodness they never used the 4WD like we do.
