Rebuilt engine wont start
Hola yotatech.
Finally got a rebuilt motor from toyota and now it won't start. This is a 1984 22r pickup. It has a weber carb and desmog. So I connected the starter wire and hooked up the dist and spark plugs. The engine will spin but not turn over. Useing starter fuild didn't help either. It has popped several times out the carb and even a little flame. What's going on. Quick replays appreciated.

Set the engine to TDC. Use a socket wrench to turn the crank pulley until its at the 0* mark. It needs to be at the #1 firing position though. You can check that by taking the valve cover off and checking which valves are loose. When on the #1 FP at TDC intake valves 1 and 2 will be loose and exhaust 1 and 3 will be loose. Once you have it set at TDC you can set your dizzy to the #1 firing position and stab it back in. Try that and get back to us.

Video works great for me. Sounds like you do have a timing issue.
A Timing Video I like Better For EFI. Set Crankshaft pulley to 5 degrees.

Easy way to install distributor on Youtube.

You are right on that. I think it mentions that in the video. After making sure I have fuel in the system, I have had great luck using those videos and having them to fire up quick if all is set right. Literally with in seconds of cranking it. The very first 22r motor I worked on, I was not even ready for it to start as I had no water and a few other things ready for it to start and it fired up. I shut it down quick.
