Rebuilt 22re won't idle right
I just had my 22re rebuilt with an rv cam, its maintaining a rough idle and when I rap out the throttle it backfires and has no power, such a power loss that it stalls when I release the clutch. I cleaned the egr valve and put a new fuel pump in. The plugs are new NGK, the plug wires and distributer cap are fairly new (hardly signs of use). I am anxious to get this runner on or off the road again asap so any and all help would be appreciated!

I'm throwing codes that didn't show before, 2, 5, 8, and 11. I have no clue what they mean. I can't find the E1 or the TE1, I think it may have been removed before I got the truck. I don't think its a timing issue because no matter where its set at the problem is the same. Tried 2 different throttle bodies and no change. Adjusted the TPS and all it did was change the idle speed but didn't help the rough idle or power loss. Is it possible the egr is stuck open and how could I test it? My cousin and I built the truck a little under a year and a half ago from the frame up, everything but the motor till it blew last June 09. Its only had 6 months of drive time since I've had it and its driving me crazy! Please help!

Well I fixed the main problem. The number 4 injector plug wires slipped out of the plug so there was no connection to shoot fuel, giving nothing for the spark. Fixed that and it was purring awesome, while I was adjusting the timing, it all of a sudden started surging and then stalled. I cleared the vent lines for the fuel tank and got it going again but I can't seem to get the timing where it needs to be. I think the tps needs to be set right, (dunno how to do that). I am unsure of one thing though, the charcoal box has the "to tank" line, what line does it plug into? There is one line on the fender well and one by the firewall. The one on the fender well goes to but doesn't go down into the tank, the one on the firewall goes to and into the tank along side of the fuel pump. I don't want them crossed.

I did have the charcoal box fuel/vent lines crossed, thats what caused it to surge and then stall. I took it into the shop that rebuilt the motor because its missing, its been in there since Monday and am still waiting to hear something back from them. I should be able to drive it home within the next couple days I hope!

I got it back from the shop with everything but the misfire fixed. I checked the compression today and it read 125 on 1,128 on 2, 130 on 3, and 128 on 4. I believe I have it narrowed down to either clogged injectors or the ignition coil. Is there anyway I can test the ignition coil?

put a buddies in in yours,i also had a problem with my 85 it was unreal that it was still; running with the amount of rust in the screens in my injectors also i found 8 degrees works good also check your valve clearance 7 intake 11 exhaust us a magnetic dial indicator to find the low spot on each lobe dont use the toyota clearance specs

The shop told me to set the valve clearance at .006 intake and .008 for exaust with this cam after about 500 miles along with retorque the cam and oil change. I had the ignition coil checked and it was good, now I'm running some seafoam through it to see if that helps the injectors. I'll check the valve clearance next.
