rebuild carb runs great but poor mileage
hi i have 2wd 4cyl 84 toy that buy couple weeks ago. it was not running when i got it so i rebuild the carb change s/plugs and wires dist/cap and rotor and fuel/air filters and vacum lines and only getting like 13-15 mpg. is this normal the truck runs great is just mileage is poor does anybody else what more to check. by the way there was gas in oil when i first got it and have been checking the oil for gas have not found any thanks in advance..

try checking the flap in the air breather that switches from hot air to cold air. if it is pulling hot air all the time it can hurt your mileage. it will be in the snorkel part of the air breather.

Is the fuel level in the middle of the site glass on the carb ? a restricted exhaust can cut mileage also. my 89 was getting around 18 mpg running the dirt roads and hwy. after i installed a k&n air filter and put on a better flowing muffler it went up to around 23 1/2. i also knocked the center out of the converter.

yea but mine is a 2 wheel drive i will think that i get better mileage.I remember that the bvsv thingy has the niples broken do u think that is one the problems i plug the lines just in case when i first got it.also i just fix that float today it was high hope that helps on mileage

the bvsv regulates the vacuum to the aap (aux accelerator pump diaphragm) which adds fuel to the engine when cold. so if the vacuum is being sent to the aap when hot it might cause it to run rich. there is a site called 22r carburetor FAQ, i don't know how to do a link to the site but it might be helpful.
