rear diff questions

rear diff questions

hey guys which third members will work in my stock 854x4 rear axle . I blew the rear end somehow going down the freeway on my way home from tahoe . I wanna get all new 529 gears and lockers but im broke and need to get it up and running for now. Thanks

any 8" third member(79-95) will fit...V-6 or 4 cylinder..just make sure you get a matching gear ratio or pull your front d/s to avoid any question until you get your 5.29s

what gears you have now? if you have 4.10 you can get a rear third for cheap on craigslist and that will at least get you back on the road.

I'm pretty sure there 4:10 . I'm going to double check in the morning . Thanks for the heads up . I'll keep looking on CL but as of today in my area there isn't too many for sale . I'll find one soon hopefully .. Thanks

I found a wrecking yard with a bunch of yotas . If I can use any third from a v6 or a 4cyl as long as its the same gear ratio im assuming the
Axles are all the same spline count but what about the drive shaft flange are they all the same bolt pattern ? Thanks guys!!

Likely the same but it may be different, best to measure and see:

Not the end of the world to either re-drill the new flange or swap in your old flange or even swap in one of the new triple- or quad-drilled flanges.

good point on the flange...totally spaced that

I used Roger's Method above when I swapped a rear driveshaft..
just rotate it flange 1/8 of a turn..took me about 10 minutes, just clamped the D/s flange to the differential flange, got me by till i got a new one..
