Questions on donor swap.

Hey there, I was lookin to solve a couple of questions I have about swapping some parts from an V6 IFS 4runner (not exactly sure of the year it is yet I havnt pulled it out of its shallow grave) on to my 85 runner. Question number one: I have already bought yukon gears and a detroit locker for the rear of my 85. I am under the impression these v6 rear axles are stronger with better brakes. I would like to use that axle mainly cause of the better braking would the yukons and my detroit swap over to this axle? Question number two: front brakes ya know what ......maybe what I should ask is What parts do I want to swap over to my 85 off of this IFS first GEN V6 runner to make an overall stronger and more reliable rig? the donor is in pretty good shape as far as rust and abuse go and best of all it was free.

The 4-cyl gears and locker you got are somewhat different than the V6 3rd member. I think folks have installed 4-cyl gears/lockers in a 6-cyl diff:

Wow after checkin that site there Mr. Brown, its not so much the brakes i want the V6 for, its those bearings. Wow, quite the differance. Thanks again 4Crawler. What about the 5 speed out of the donor any insight on that? worth the trouble? Peterson has an article this month on the R150F is this the same tranny as the one in this donor? they did not specify years just said v6 runners. I am not going to be out of control rough with this rig just lots of early and late season camping trips so relibility is what im lookin for here.

R150 fits the V6 engines, you likely have a W56 behind your 22RE (assume that is what engine you have). If so, the only option for the V6 tranny swap would be to find an R151 tranny off a 22RE turbo truck for the bellhousing (but at that point, installing the whole R151 tranny and 23 spline t-case would be the better option.
