Question? 85 pickup sr5 efi 4x4
If the oil pump goes out will there be a sensor that will shut the engine off and keep it from cranking until it is fixed and reset? A guy has this truck for sale and it is in pretty sweet condition and says his son was driving it and it just cut off on him and now it wont crank. He says that the mechanic says its the oil pump but im not so sure. Can anyone diagnose this problem or at least tell me if it is worth buying?

No, i doubt it, someone loosened my crankshaft pulley bolt, which caused the oil to shoot out and coolant(overheating since the fan wouldnt spin) and had no oil when i got home. It did trash my timing chain. If it wont start i highly doubt it is the oil pump, need more info on how. And if it has spark, fuel, etc.
Good luck.
Good luck.

>> now it wont crank<<
This needs to be better defined. To me "won't crank" means "seized". If the oil pump failed and the motor stopped and now "won't crank" vs. just "won't start" I'd say the motor is likely toast and not just the pump.
Take a socket to the pulley bolt and try to crank over the engine manually (while not in gear, battery cables pulled and all that). If it won't move, there are probably some BIG problems. BIG like, rebuild/replace not just a bad oil pump IMO.

fuel pump if it cranks but no start. But if it just goes click then motor may be siezed up. Get a wrench on the crank bolt and see if it turns. Go clock wise. But all this is just web wrenching with out knowing alot more varibles. The 22r/e is a good motor and easy to work on so if its a good price for the truck and its in good shape get it;. If not let me know where its at and i will get it. I aint scared of engine problems.
