Putting AC on a NON ac truck

Ill probly get flamed for this but here goes. I have a 84 4x4 pickup 22r and i have a doner 87 22re 2wd. im pulling the AC out of the 87 to put in the 84. I have searched for a good write up or video but i have come up short. im hoping there is a good one so i can read and answer the 1000 questions i have about it. if not, maybe someone who has done it would like to help me out.

i have already ordered a new dryer, condenser, O ring kit and 134a retrofit adapters. is there any other parts i need before i start?

My carb already has a idle up diaphram, but where does the hose attach to on the motor?

is all the wiring plug and play? read that the plug on the ac amplifier is different but i can jump the extra wire to make it work?

You might need a couple service manuals (or EWD books) for each truck to check the wiring (to splice it together), or just buy the right part for your 84 for the AC amplifier. I haven't done the conversion myself, but I've parted out a lot of 86/87 pickups and the AC evaporator is one of the last parts to come out of the cab shell. It's not super bad to get to, but time consuming pulling the whole dash out (not sure if full removal is required).

A big question to ask is does the AC work in the 87 (if it runs)? If it does, then atleast you know the system as a whole is working, fresh gaskets etc like you ordered should be everything you need except the differences from the years. If the 87 has an AC charge and it can be taken to a shop, it would be best to have them discharge it since they have a machine that vacuums out the charge and stores it in a tank. If it's still R22 you might have them scratching their heads though, I think the machine only has 1 tank for R134a.

Not real sure what does the AC idle kick up, maybe someone else can post on that. You might need to order a part for the 22r if it's a different design from the 22re. A lot of the wiring seems to be there for upgrades on these trucks, so I wouldn't be too surprised if it's wired for AC already. The difference might be in the engine harness, or a sub harness is missing though. If I remember right there's a little 3 plug harness you'll need that's like around a foot long. Not sure if the carb vs efi was different for that area or not off hand.

Good luck on the project.
