pulling dash apart?

i have my dash apart, well most of it. i cant figure out how to get behind the air con to change the light color. i changed my cluster color but it looks horrible with green on the aircon lights, just wondering if anyone knew what to look for or if there are good write ups for it

If your trying to get to the light bulb on the heater control thats a real pain in the butt, the light socket snaps into the back of the heater control, so you can either disconect the hearter control cables and pull the control out, or remove most of the dash to get to it, wich ever you think is easier. its very easy to remove the dash, or atleast i think it is because ive replaced a couple of heater cores so ive done it a couple of times.

remove the knobs from the heater controls and carefully pry the face plate off. the bulb is located in back. it may make it easier if you remove your ashtray and the bracket to hold the socket from the back when installing replacement.

Mid 80s trucks show a blower resistor listed but Im not sure where it is. The last time that happened to me it was the switch itself but it was also a newer truck(91)

Blower motor resistor is located right behind the blower motor itself... closest to the firewall. Two bolts that should be 1 to 2" beside each other with a rectangular plug in the middle. Removing the bolts exposes the resistor.

would check out the switch first as only the low speed is not working. terminal 4 is the common, 5 is low, 1 is med and 2 is high. shouldhave continnuity from 4 common to 5.

probly not, if it does its not going to be too expensive at a wrecking yard. id go get another one anyways and try it. i have had the same experiences with only one speed not working and every time it was the resistor but ive never had that problem with any of my toyotas=) just check the switch first just because its easier to deal with, resistors can be hard to find.

I disagree. I believe it may be the resistor, as the 2nd gen trucks (1st gen runners) actually have a seperate resistor coil for each individual terminal. They're very fragile and are bent and broken very easily. Its generally a common problem.

By 1991, someone was smart enough to encase the coils to prevent damage caused just by handling the unit.

looking at the fsm and the way the power feeds thru the switch and no low but med and high working. looks to be the resistor but since the dash is apart
no harm in ringing out the switch first.
