power steering pump noise? extreme frustration
I have gotten everything running after spending the entire last week tearing apart my 22r and now I have this noise coming from the power steering pump (i believe anyways). It's been there since I first fired it up since being torn apart. The truck hasn't been driven yet either, just an idle.
It's hard to describe. It's not a grinding, but it does seem to have a pattern to it when the truck is just sitting there. If I turn the steering wheel it gets a lot worse and more constant. My fluid in the reservoir is foamy. I had to disconnect the hoses from the PS pump when I took everything apart. Any suggestions or help. I have to get this running before tomorrow.

Try pushing some air out the top of cap. raise the front of the truck of the ground with jacks and or stands and turn the truck on and leave the P/S cap off and turn the wheel from side to side several times and see if that does not get most of the air out. If ca get someone to watch or you to see if the air is bubbling out of the P/S cap. If this does work your gonna have to drain and flush it and put new in it.

you have to drive the truck to get the fluid to pump through the system, yes there is air in it. Drive it then check the level and add accordingly. like above lifting it and turning the wheel will work also.

Bleeding the system
Sounds like you need to bleed the system. Jack up the front with jack stands so the wheels are off the ground, engine off, and slowly turn the steering wheel from stop to stop, 4 or 5 times. keep checking the fluid level. Start the engine and repeat the process until the foam has subsided and the pump is quieter. I did this recently but drained all the old fluid out first.
