Play in steering... Steering BOx?

So My 85 Pick up has about 2 inches of play in the wheel. I am trying to determine if its the steering box, and if i can do anything about it. The previous owner installed crossover steering, the box looks clean and new. But if i move my steering wheel the two inches back and forth the shaft moves seamlessly with the steering wheel but the pitman arm dosen't move at all. ???? are there adjustments on the steering box..

The box on my 93 had an adjustment on the top. It looked like a screw with a locknut on it. If you can see that loosen the locknut and turn the screw in until you get less play. The manual says 1" at the rim of the steering wheel is normal.

I think it worked. I basically tightened that screw down all the way, and the steering is way tighter. and a little harder to turn at first, but that makes sense considering that before it wasn't doing anything. Can you tighten it down to much?

Thanks

I run mine snugged down all the way, no problems. Assuming you are tightening the screw with a long bladed screwdriver, I doubt you can make it too tight. Maybe if you had the box off the truck and used an impact gun on it, it may get too tight.

Is that adjustment only on IFS steering boxes?
