Picking Up 84 Runner this Friday

The truck has been sitting in an enclosed barn since 2000 or 2001. 114k miles on it and its an absolute cream puff other than it hasnt been driven in a while.

For the people who know, what would you do other than the basic fluid changes, spark plugs/wires, new/rebuilt carb? I did hook cables to it and everything came on when I turned the key to ON and the back window even rolled down. I did bump the key and it turned over. I hope that wasnt a bad thing to do but oh well.

Thanks in advance for any information. I will probably get started this weekend with the basics and wait a few days for some of those in the know to chime in.

Yeah. It sure looks like it. I just hope I can get it running for a reasonable price. I'll try to post some pics of it today.

Good call on the heater fan.

It belonged to the brother of the guy that I am getting it from. He went overseas and left it at his brothers house. Finally sold it to him but just never was driven. Don't think this guy knows what he has.

Hey Outsane,

When you say a fresh tank, you just mean fresh gas not a new tank....right?

You really dont want to even mess with it. It'll be more trouble than you can fathom. And SOOOO expensive to get on the road, or even out of the barn.
That way you wont have to even deal with scrap yard. Best bet is to sell it to me. I'm in Georgia as well, so it'll be an easy deal. I wouldnt even charge you to come pick it up...

Thanks for the offer but I think I'll keep it. Its taken me 3 years to get the guy to sell it.

I don't blame you at all. You never know what somebody might do.

Now, if Saturday would just hurry up and get here. I can't wait to get my hands on it.

I suggest throw in a fresh tank of gas along with seafoaming the beast. might need to spray some gas down the carb or things like carb cleaner..something to get it started. beware though..if the timing is off when you go to start it then prepare for a gunshot under the hood..aka the classic backfire.

I have made some pretty good progress with the truck. I put a weber carb on yesterday, drained the gas (full tank of old fuel) and filled it half full of 93, changed the oil, new battery and it runs. Probably going to need a head gasket. Blowing a lot of white smoke. It ran a tad hot but I changed the thermostat and it hasn't done it again.

Capt, I'm in Greensboro, about 30 min south of Athens. I'm only about an hour from Dublin.
