Is an oil cooler really neccessary?

sort of - Im running an OBERG 6" commercial filer instead of an oil filter.
use an oil filter adapter with AN hoses to the filter which has be relo'd to the front fender area (in front of the wheel). It acts as a pseudo cooler. Have a therostadt to plumb in line but after running a temp guage, decided I didnt need to add the cooler.
