oil cooler?

is there anything of such sort on the 22r engines? I have an 85 4x4 yota

Nope... but one can easily be added. just get a remote filter kit for a regular ford v8 (ph8,s8 etc filter) and plumb one in between the output of the filter and input of the adapter.

not interested in putting one in at the time. Just trying to find how coolant is getting into my block. Either b/c of the timing chain or a head gasket. In the process of tearing down right now

sometimes a bad waterpump will groove the timing cover enough to allow coolant to leak through.

Remove the waterpump and CAREFULLY inspect with a bright light. If you see scoring, replace the cover, they're cheap, and available from a few aftermarket sources.

have the same problem here and it was the head gasket.
but new motor was my fix cause i needed new piston rings and all the seals
