Mystery problem
My 85 with a 22re runs great at idle, new fuel pump, tps, afm from known working source. The truck has no power to get down the road. I can't use 4th gear. It does seem to do a little better after it has warmed up, I feel like I may have the valves to tight and they are not opening for fuel. When floored in the appropriate gear the truck falls on its face will decelerate and lean out. I am stumped and I really need to get this fixed

I put the motor together from a long block it was running ok and got progressively worse I'm not ruling out the possibility that the valves loosened up, I tend to not put massive torque on bolts since it's a 30 yo motor. It does run better when it's warm but still n

I didnt see you say if you installed a new fuel filter. When they start clogging that can slow them down. Is the catalytic converter clogged as well maybe? I had a damaged converter and removed it and had a great running motor afterwards.

I'm almost positive he's running a fairly new filter, and I don't think he even has a Cat on his truck.
If he was, I'd say its the Catalytic converter... Its acting a lot like my Jeep did when it had a clogged Cat.

My truck was doing the same thing. When I accelerated like an old lady, it was fine but would barely have the guts to get to 4th gear. I grabbed a 12MM wrench, loosened my distributor and increased timing by ear. Drove down the road and it got a bit better. Stopped on shoulder and increaded timing a bit more. Drove hard again and it got better. The 3rd adjustment got me where I needed and truck stopped hesitating and bogging down. Tightened distributor and off I went. Never used a light to see where timing is, but truck seems to like it either way.
