my "New" soft top is missing parts
I just bought a soft top from a co worker. It is an old kayline model. It is missing all the mounting brackets that the top snaps to. If anybody has one of these tops I could really use pictures of those brackets along with some measurements since I am going to have to fab them. I guess kayline went out of business so ordering repacement pieces is out of the question. Thanks in advance, Joe

I have one of these tops also. It's not where I can get measurements tonight, but I may be able to tomorrow if noone else has them readily available. They're really not that complicated, but I intend to either build or purchase the kit like 4crawler has without having to drill lots of holes. I still haven't mounted mine, and I've had it for nearly a month!

I figured out what parts I need: all the side, tailgate and cab pieces that hold the top down. every male part of the snaps and some sort of tie-down pieces for when the top is down. If anyone knows where I could find the snaps and tiedowns please let me know. I know this is a lot to ask but I could really use the dimensions for all the mounting pieces. I plan on using the existing holes like 4crawler's set up(he used some custom t-brackets that were riveted to the soft top frame)Thanks in advance, Joe

I got replacement snaps and things like the "footman loops" for the straps at my local hardware store.

I have found all the parts I need to fab the mounting brackets but I still need to know a few things. What thickness is the aluminum angle iron: 1/8 or 1/16"? What is the width of the angle iron 1 1/2" or 2"? It appears to use a flat aluminum stock for the cab mount. i need to know the thickness and width of that as well? I need to find a cheaper place for the repacement snaps seeing that they are $1 a piece at the hardware store. One more question, Is the tailgate mount the same size angle iron as the side mounts? thanks again, Joe

I had a similar problem with my used Kayline. Here's what I did to get it mounted:
- snaps I got a Home Depot. If you ask an "associate", they'll usually give you a deal on a box of them rather than each. I combined them with a nylon nut to secure the male snaps. Replacement female snaps available there too, but you'll need the install tool
- The angle brackets for the sides are 1/16" aluminum
- The cab brackets are called J-channel, they're about 3/4" wide with a 1/8 x 1/16 lip for the top to seal against
-For the tailgate, I just screwed the snaps directly into the skin

A month ago I would have bought you beer. I will post up some pics of how I ended up building the frame. It's raining right now and the 4runner is staying mostly dry(I've got to seal up the windshield} Most of all thank you to everyone who replied. Joe
