My horn was not working and I noticed the pin was not touching the ring on the steering wheel. I just put some washers between the ring and the steering wheel and it works now. I also greased the ring with some di-electric grease so it slows the pin from wearing.

That's funny. The first time I also put washers under the round brass ring so that it would make contact with the pin. This did not work well for me. The ring is supported in only 3 places.

Then I went to Toyota thinking I would have to buy the entire switch assembly to get the pin. The parts guy found just the pin.

When I replaced it again last year the parts guy at first could not find it, and thought it had been discontinued. But then he found it and it was in stock.

Maybe I should buy another now for when it is time to replace it again in another 15 years....

It was a while ago when i messed with my horn. I did a horn on a few others vehicles and i guess i was thinking about those.

You all made me feel guilty because I did not use grease on my 2 prior horn brass pin replacements.

So, I pulled the wheel today and did it. Put conductive grease on the round brass ring that is secured to the back of the steering wheel.

Since the wheel was off I looked at the condition of the horn pin I put in last year. It is being ground away just like the 2 pins before. Soft brass I guess.

I then pushed the spring loaded pin in with my finger. Must be a stout spring as it took more effort then I expected for a simple electrical horn contact.

Next time I am going to cut the spring so the pin will not push so hard on the round brass ring.

Repaired mine yesterday and I found someone had stacked washers on the slip ring and the pin worn down the the point the spring fell off. Retuned it to the way it was stock and greased the slip ring with some tetra gun grease and it's all good now.

Toyota had the part in stock
