Im having a problem getting my horn to work, ive replaced all the fuses behind the driverside kick panel and still nothing. were is the horn relay located ?, when i push the horn button i don`t even hear the relay click.

there is a brass "horn pin" located behind the steering wheel ... It's most likely worn out . you need to remove the wheel .

Mine horn does not work either.

I have tested the horn off the truck and it works

The horn has 12 volt power going to it.

Since the horn needs to be grounded at the steering wheel; I think the slip contacts are most likely bad on on steering wheel.???? Maybe someone else can shead some light on this

I have replaced that brass pin twice. But then, I have owned my 1988 pickup since 1989.

You can slip an empty .22 short cartridge over the horn pin.

On the first gen vehicles, the horn is always supplied with 12v, and the ground is sourced from the steering wheel contact. this changed in gen 2, where they simply supply 12v to the horn when they want it to honk, its grounded to the frame.

You don't have a horn relay. Either your horn is bad, or your steering wheel contact is bad.... or a wire is bad. check for 12v at the horn, and for 12v at the steering wheel terminal.

grease it where it rides seriously though, where the pins contact and use conductive grease

my horn works when the wheel is turned to either side but, not in the middle. looks like i need one of these pins also.
ill miss swirving at other cars when i need to hit the horn.

try your hazards they are on the same fuse as the horn if they dont work fuse is fried. fuse is located in the engine bays fuse pannel good luck

That is what my horn was doing many years ago. I thought it was a bad horn and bought another one, but the same problem.

That is when I realized there was a spring loaded brass pin to make electrical contact. When the parts guy showed me a new pin it was clear what the problem was.

Started doing it again a few months ago so I replaced the pin again. At least this time I knew what the problem was. I think I am going to pull the steering wheel and put some grease on the round brass contact.

Either that, or stop turning the steering wheel and wearing out the pin.

Yes, this is usually the culprit for me. It also kills the radio on my truck, though that may be a result of aftermarket radio with crap instal by some dude at the soundtrack. Good find on that pin though, never knew that was there. I'll keep that in mind.
