My 1985 Toyota Pickup truck 22R automatic is losing coolant out the exaust at 33,000
My 2 wheel drive truck had receipts in the glove box for head gasket and timing chain cover and timing chain back in 2007 at 77,000 miles and I believe it is time to do it again.
I started having running issues and checked the spark plugs and the front two were looking lean like my carburetor was running lean and I was getting around 26 mpg so I changed the spark plugs and always use NGK plugs and new wires and new distributor cap and rotor button. I turned the air mix screw counter clockwise in an effort to get it to run richer but, it seemed like my carburetor was not acting right I could not get it to run smooth and took the top off the carb and sprayed carburetor cleaner in the float bowl and seen I got some brown stuff out and blew out carefully with air and put it back together and turned the air screw all the way in till it stoped then turned it out 3.5 turns and started it up and tried to adjust to get it to run smooth. I seemed to get it running good and smooth again and noticed I lost a little coolant and it started white smoking and after shutting it off overnight the fuel in my float bowl would empty out or go somewhere overnight. I would have to start the motor for a period of time till the float bowl would fill again and it would run fine until I left it overnight again…I rebuilt the carburetor and got it running great but still overnight no fuel in the float bowl and it has become apparent I have two issues now ie I have carburetor issues and head gasket issues and maybe timing chain issues maybe. I replaced the fuel filter and the fuel cap and all the fuel lines and even the vacuum lines and made sure I didn’t have vacuum leaks. I also changed the thermostat and the radiator cap and added antifreeze but, these things didn’t seem to fix my problems.
so now I have my truck in my garage and I will be disassembling for a head gasket and inspect the timing chain…
I own and work on my Harleys and work on my Toyota and Ford trucks to a point. Any good tips and videos would be appreciated. TIA Tim in Tennessee

after I pulled the head I took it to the machine shop to rework and it was a blowed head gasket and then I noticed number 4 cylinder had a deep scratch and maybe the wrist pin got into it…I just delivered the short block yesterday so it is not tore down yet but, Mika at the machine shop said he may sleeve number 4 cylinder…
