Miss in motor

I have what seems to be a miss in the motor from about 1000rpms to 1700rpms it's worse when it's cold, but gets a little better once warmed.
What do you think could cause this?

Might help to give folks a clue as to what year and type of engine you are referring to.

Could be anything from valves to a leaky H/G

Might start by seeing if there is any stored trouble code(s):

The battery has been out of it for like a month before I got it, Wouldn't that reset it?

Yes, that would reset the ECU, but since you did not put that fact in the post how should we know that was the case. And have any codes been saved since the battery was installed and the engine actually run?
