Master for 85 w/ vented rotors?
Hello YotaTech. I'm helping a friend with some upgrades to his 85 Xtracab. Among them, adding vented rotors and "V6" calipers. I see mention of using a master cylinder from a 80 series Land Cruiser. Marlin Crawler sells one, but they're out of stock with no estimate of a ship date. In addition, both ports on that master are on the side, and the 85 has one port coming in from the top. Truck still has its drum rears. Anyone have a suggestion of what master cylinder to use in this application?

Hello,
As a disclaimer, I haven’t done this swap myself but have researched it.
Some report that running the stock (13/16” bore) MC is fine while others have swapped to the 1” bore. It seems like the bigger bore is needed for rear disc conversions but not necessarily for V6 swap.
As far as the brake lines go, most everyone says its pretty easy to bend the line to match the 1” bore if you decide to do that way. Also, a whole bunch of Toyotas have a 1” bore MC, including many V6 2nd get trucks and 1st gen 4Runners. So you can source the bigger MC from a junk yard or buy a new one from one of the Toyota’s that has a stock 1”. The electrical connectors are different but you can simply cut and swap wiring around. there are a ton of threads/websites that walk you through the swap and sourcing parts.
Happy Trails,
Winky
