Looking at this 85. Thoughts?
http://albuquerque.craigslist.org/cto/969469897.html
I'm going to take a look at this one tomorrow after work. I don't feel it's really worth 4900$ but can't be sure until I get to crawl around it in person.
Anything I should look for other than rust on the frame and things like that? I know I'll have to ask if the timing chain has been replaced, actual miles etc.
Thank you.

I have looked at that one, it's been for sale for a long time. It looks pretty clean but no way would I pay $4900.00 for it.
It looks alot better from a distance than close up and it's completely stock. If you want to see it it's at a lot about 2-3 blocks east of Juan Tabo on the south side of Central.
The guy that owns the lots is named Chris and is a pretty nice guy.
Let us know how it goes.

That's a ridiculous amount of money for a stock rig, nice or not. Disregard any claims of services, rebuilds or replacements that don't come with a reciept. The PO of my truck claimed it had a rebuilt 70,000 miles before I bought it, it puked a head gasket a month later, upon removing the head I found:
-The head was junk, water passages destroyed by electrolysis (coolant wasn't changed often enough)
-Cam was getting ready to be junk
-Standard sized pistons. Nobody puts a standard piston back into an engine that would have had 180,000 at the time of the rebuild.
If you aren't of decent mechanical ability, find someone who is to go with you to look at the truck. Test drive it in every gear and get everything up to operating temperature.

Yeah, the price is a bit too steep. Nice looking rig though.
I don't know whether you want to keep it stock or build it. If you're going to heavily build it, just find a decent one and cheap to start the project. It's sad to see a rig this nice gets cut and welded, caged and all that stuff.

I'll let ya'll know hwo it goes when I go see it. Since I've only budgeted about 3000$ for another rig, and I have to sell my truck to get that money back, I'll probably have to pass on it. We shall see.

Well, I'd try and talk him down to 3700 or so. I mean, those are pretty rare in my neck of the woods (California). I would give 3500 as long as the motor was the only thing leaking oil. I paid (well ok, my DAD did haha) 2,700 for the 84 xtracab (carbureted obviously). It was a clean truck before I got to it so I think the mid-3 thousands sounds reasonable.

so Junkers88 what was the outcome?
Just curious, it is overpriced. Interior looks nice but I wonder why when they recovered the seats they eliminated the headrests, looks like they covered the holes..

I like the look (using my imagination of a lift, tires, bumpers, yada, yada....) Talk him down, way down and drive it home. There is an immaculate one in my neck of the woods for $3600. Its an 88, IFS is only drawback and the fact that I have two and the wife would have me taken down. It runs like a top (no leaks), everything works (including A/C) 3" BL 33" buckshots. No dents no faded paint (original blue). Seriously its that clean. Just something to compare with. Good luck
