issues when motor gets hot.

hey everyone i was hoping yall could help me out with my issue... about 2 weeks ago i was crusing down the highway bout 65 5th gear about 2500rpm then my truck starts jumping and jerking. so i slow down to 2000rpm it stops.. after a mile or so it starts again... so i slowed down to like 1500rpm an it ran fine the next 5mi or so till i got home... thought i had some trash in carb so i fully dissasembled it and flushed it out (wasnt very dirty) put it back on and test drove it the next day... same thing happened when in 4th or 5th gear high rpm when you give it gas the motor wants to choke out... then i thought it to be a problem with my fuel pump and filter swapped them out with new ones same problem... took it out muddin the other night truck ran great for bout two hours then it cut off.. turned it over bout 10 times then it crankup get bout 100 yds it cut off... turned it over bout 10 times it would crank up go another couple 100 yds then cut off... i tried keeping it in lower gears didnt make a diff tried higher gears low rpm didnt help no matter what i did it would cut off on so on to the point that i had to pull it the rest of the way home... if anyone has any segestions as to what the problem is or what i can to elimanate things i would greatly appriciate it..

Try the fuel filter? If not...sounds like a similar issue to what I've had happen and I have yet to figure it out. I'd like to replace all my rubber gas lines and pull the plug on the tank to make sure I've got no crap in there, but that's all I can think of. I have a rebuilt carb, new fuel pump and clean filter and this happens to me, but only at highway speeds, and not always, and not under similar conditions (aside from the highway speed thing). But I'd try the fuel filter first, if you haven't yet.

Is it overheating? Is there enough oil in it? May want to look into those two things and maybe not trust the guage readings because sometimes sensors go bad.

And yea it has oil b/c i got a mech to put a new motor when i bought it and (im guessing the rings never set right cuz motor has same amout of power as my last one that was running off of 3 1/2 cylinders and im stuck with it cuz the motor company that the mech purchased it from went out of business..... go fig) i constantly have to put oil in it. uses bout a quart every 1000-1500 miles.

May have gotten some moisture inside the distributor cap. If it got wet while it was hot condensation will buildup inside.
Just a thought.

I had the same problem with a Datsun 4x4 I used to have. I dropped the tank cleaned it out. disconnected the fuel lines and put compressed air to them to flush anything out of the lines, remember to remove filters and disconnect the lines from the carb, pump as that you dont blow all that grit back into your motor. never happened again, my brother now has it and it still runs like a top. Hope this helps.
