Hey guys, I have a 1985 toyota pickup 22re. I can't get my truck to run right no matter what I've tried. It's like a moving skip and is not constant, only back fires while engine braking. I've got a new distributor (cardone), new plugs, new wires, cleaned the MAF and intake, cleaned the EGR valve, etc. If anyone can help please do, I dont know where to go from here. I got a video of the timing light and it moving around.

If the timing mark on your pulley is moving around at idle when you hit it with the timing light, it's likely that your timing chain is stretched or loose. The chain does stretch over time & use & should usually be replaced every 75000 to 100000 miles. It can get loose from the stretch, or from broken guides or malfunctioning tensioner. Best way to diagnose this is to take off the valve cover & have a look.

Here is a great video on Youtube about this:

I would start by cleaning all grounds. Not just inspect them but clean them till they are shiny. Have you tested the TPS ?
