Heat Damage?!
'84 22r 4x4- My cooling fan stopped working suddenly while on the freeway- I pulled over quick, but not before my temp gauge was pegged in the red. How do know if any damage occured?
Also, I will be replacing the fan belt for the first time...anything I should know?
Thanks, Phil

First off, if your fan malfunctioned on the freeway, you wouldnt notice a change in running temp because you already have sufficient air flow from traveling 65+ miles per hour. If the belt broke then your water pump stopped and thats why you overheated
The belt replacement is pretty straight forward.
I highly doubt you caused damage since you shut it off fast, mine has gotten into the red a few times and still operates just fine.
Also warm your motor up to runnign temp, shut it off and see if the fan and pulley turn in correspondence wtih eachother or if the fan is allowed to slip like it does when its cold
If it slips then your fan clutch is bad
