Grounding battery

Alright so i bought a new negative cable a while back the cable it called for is a couple feet long. right now i have it kinda looped around and mounted to the fender right next to eh battery because thats the way it was before. So after thinking about it i thought, "this cant be right". So i look at my cable and there is also an aux wire that comes off the battery cable terminal. So im thinking the main cable runs down to the frame or block?? and that extra wire should ground to the fender. Maybe thats why i have alternator whine in my cb. If someone can tell me the correct spot for the negative battery cable i would appreciate it.

Stock setup has ground cable from battery "-" post to the fender then another wire from the fender to the frame, near the motor mount. As long as they are all connected, it should be fine to do most any way. When I relocated my battery, I ran the ground to the frame first, then up to the fender.

havent lookt at my truck in ages (its been in storage)..
I upgraded the cables a while back.

Theres a BIG cable that goes to the BLOCK - on a 22R its in the front corner down by the oil pan (I think)...

Whine in CB can also be due to the ignition... CBs are AM and those are sensitive th "hash" from the alt, ignition, tires (static electricity) etc...

how would u go about getting rid of whine or toning it down? Im using an inline filter before my cb and the inline filter get power difreclty from my battery and that didnt help at all. Would going to a better antenna like a firestik help?

Best defense against noise in radios is to run dedicated power and ground wires from the battery back to the device (fused for safety), twisting them together and then run to the inline filter and then to the device(s). I do this for all my radios, CD player, etc. and get no electrical noise at all. If you only filter the power side of the circuit, noise can get in via the ground side, especially if you ground to the body or frame. You are essentially making a big "loop antenna" with the ground circuit that is picking up all the electrical noise between the radio and the battery ground connection. I run my pair of wires down the passenger side of the body and into the cab so they are away from the alternator and ignition as much as possible.

A good ground is a must. You should refer to the big 3 upgrade.

I found a bolt on the passenger side of the block next to the oil pressure sending unit that had a ground wire running form it to the body. So i put the main negative cable right there and i put other smaller wire on the body. I think im going to go buy 2 small ground straps and run them from the block to the frame so i get the best ground. I will try running both leads from my cb to the battery and see if that helps. Thanks for the help!
